Let’s get to know each other

Hi! I won’t repeat everything in my bio, but my name is Lacey, and I’m glad you are here! I hope this blog becomes a place of encouragement, freedom, and vulnerability for those who come. I want this to be a place where a deeper love for Jesus and a stronger passion to follow Him can grow. Considering the deep honesty that this will require, I thought it best to really introduce myself first.

As of now, early in the year 2021, I’m 38 years old and have been married for 16 years. We have three children who are in pre-school, elementary and junior high. My husband and I have been involved in vocational ministry since 2004. I truly became a Christian when I was 13 at a youth retreat, then just one year later, felt the Lord calling me into vocational ministry.

Therefore, once I graduated high school, I went to a Baptist University where I majored in Religion and Theatre. Because I was at a Christian school, my major was more like a toned down version of a seminary degree as opposed to a study of all the world religions. I spent a year each studying both testaments of the Bible and countless hours discussing languages and theology and philosophy. I loved every second of it. My brain is naturally bent toward thinking through hard questions and using logic to help guide my heart through my emotions.

The Systematic Theology class I took was probably my favorite class I have ever taken. We met for three hours once a week. It was a very small class. We would walk in and my professor would have the desks arranged in a circle and we would all find a seat. He would start the class with asking a question like, “If God knows what you are going to choose, and He can never be wrong, are you really free to choose?” We would then take those next three hours to discuss. It was thrilling. I quickly discovered that digging deep into what we believe about God and how it should affect the way we live was my favorite thing to think about.

It has now been almost 17 years since I graduated college and a lot of life has happened since then. I have learned that what I believe about God is paramount to how I handle circumstances. I have learned that what I believe about God is under constant attack from the enemy. I have learned that what I believe about God has the power to transform my life and lead me into true freedom and abundant life as long as its not just something I believe with my head. I have to trust Jesus so deeply, take Him at His word so strongly, that my actions are only controlled by those truths.

I’ve spent 17 years so far, learning how to do that better, discovering the ways I wasn’t doing it at all, and challenging my habits and behaviors to figure out where they don’t fall under trusting Jesus. I still have a lot to learn.

But as I have walked with Jesus through this, I have felt Him leading me to write these lessons down. That’s why I’m here. To share and discuss what I have learned so far and hopefully help others find the abundant life I’m trying to run towards.

I welcome your comments, questions and discussion points. Also know that this will never be a place of judgement or hate and I will not leave comments up that condemn anyone. Jesus gently calls to us all to follow Him wherever He leads and I hope you find the encouragement here to trust and obey.

  2. Thank you, Lacey.
I have often had similar questions as what your professor asked in your Systematic Theology class.
Looking forward to the discussions here in the future and growing our understanding of God.
